Renn puts the Death Marks on her mother, and is therefore tainted from touching the dead. With each book that goes by, Torak annoys me more and more, and it’s hard to pin down why exactly. By showing disconnection from the environment as catastrophic, she makes a compelling ecological case: I might have shed a tear a few times. My jaw dropped when I found out. It was a mistake. This is the 4th book in the Chronicles of Ancient Darkness series so this will not be an in-depth review.

But this book was so goddamn awesome. Michelle Paver does it again with this splendid entry in her Chronicles of Ancient Darkness series.


The story picks up right where Soul Eater left off without any annoying recap. Due to Torak’s status as Outcast and the resulting separation of him and Renn we barely get to follow Renn. Renn finds a fish with two heads– another sign.
